Viacord vs. Cord Blood Registry? We have made the decision to bank our first child's cord blood, and have narrowed it down to the aforementioned companies. Who have you banked with, your reasons, opinions, and experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Viacord vs. Cord Blood? Does anyone have any experience with either Viacord or Core Blood? I would like to bank my stem cells, but I am undecided on which company to use. ANY insight you could give me would be appreciated.
Should we store our sons cord blood through ViaCord? We have been looking into this and I think it's a good idea - for that "just in case" ease, you know? Did you bank your child's blood? If so, who did you do this through and what was the cost? BUT...with ViaCord it's about $1500 initially then you have to pay annually to have it "stored" at their facility. They offer payment plans but I think to have it stored it's something like $100/year or $1500 for 20 years. What has your experience been? Confused for life - I dont what is so "gross" about having the ability to save a life if it is ever needed. Maybe you should grow up a little first - but then again with that username you have chosen.... eh.
Cord Blood Stem Cell (Viacord & CBR), Hospital Fees? Both companies Viacord & CBR told me that the doctor who delivers the baby will perform the cordblood to the provided kit that they provided. However, the doctor might have to bill the fees for the cordblood tranfers. Both Viacord & CBR have no idea how much the doctor will charge for this operation. If you bought the cordblood thru Viacord & CBR, did you have to pay any fees to the doctor at the hospital? if so, how much? please advise at your earliest convenience because my wife due date is drawing near. We need to make decision to buy or not to buy with either the companies. Thanks for your help!
Umbilical Cord Blood Banking suggestions...? I've been researching Viacord, Cryo-cell, CBR, and Family Cord Blood Services. I can't seem to decipher which one is the best and most trustworthy. I don't want to base it on price. They're all similar but some experienced testimonials would help too.
Questions about Cord Blood Banking? I want to save my baby's cord blood but I want to find that cheapest way. I heard that my doctor can take it and the blood bank can come pick it up from the hospital and I dont have to go through a third party like Viacord for more money? How long in advance to I have to pay for it and is it a hard process?
Cord Blood Banking? I keep getting these pamphlets from ViaCord or something like that. can someone tell me what the deal is with Cord Blood banking and is it worth it? Thanks
Stem cells - is the umbilical cord blood banking the only option? My almost 4 y.o. daughter had a birth trauma which resulted in the severe kidney damage. Now I'm about to deliver a baby boy and considering an umbilical cord blood banking just in case it may help her in the future. My friend just told me that she've read somewhere that the umbilical cord blood is not the only way to get the stem cells, which rising a question: does it make any sense to invest almost $5000 in the viacord now? tried to google, but did not find anything on this matter. Have you heard anything? Any links, articles, other resources??? Thank you for any help!

Positive for Hepatitis B core antibody. Negative for Suface Antigen. False Positive? We had our baby 3 weeks ago and we decided to do the ViaCord cord blood banking. After delivery they took several vials of blood from my wife and the umbilical cord for the banking / testing. About 2 weeks after we got a notice saying that they needed more blood as there wasn't enough to complete all the tests. One of the tests being Hepatitis B Virus Core Antigen and Hepatitis B Surface Antigen. Amoungst other things. We recieved a letter today from ViaCord saying that her blood tested positivly for Hepatits B Core Antibody but Negatively for Hepatitis B Surface Antigen. They continued to saw that the combination of resuls may mean you have been exposed to hepatits B some time in the past or there is a possiblility the test result showed a false positive. Then says the surface antigen test being negative is a better indication that you're not infected. Needless to say my wife is freaking out that she gave it to the baby. Anyone else have similiar experiences? Just to add, we both had the vaccinations as children and my wife was negative for the test prescreening for the pregnancy. We unfortunately didn't get the vaccination at the hospital for our son and was going to wait for the peditrician to give it to him at 1 month.
Etiquette for a Baby Shower with baby #2? Do you have one again? I had a baby shower with my daughter b/c she was my first and we knew she was a girl... made hosting the shower and getting gifts easy. I'm pregnant again, my daughter is now 16 months old, and I'm wondering what the proper etiquette is for having a baby shower again. We are not finding out the gender with this one. The only thing we really need this time around are diapers, wipes, another car seat, and help paying off the viacord blood cord banking invoice. What do people do in this situation? No shower? Just curious. Thanks! I'm thinking of maybe having a party/get together before my life turns upsidedown. If someone wants to bring a gift, fine, if not, fine too.
