Cord Blood Banking: Can I allow cord to stop pulsating?
It is very important for me to have my baby's cord stop pulsating before cutting it. I've been looking into cord blood banking, but don't know if there is a company that will allow me to wait for the cord to stop pulsating before obtaining the sample. Does anyone know of a company that will allow for this? Perhaps by sending in a larger sample or something? I am in Orange County, CA if it matters... Thanks so much! :)

- I work in the Texas Medical Center cord blood bank. There is a phone number and Web site for the NATIONAL MARROW DONER PROGRAM you can contact. They may be able to answer your question and further assist you. National marrow donor program: 1.800.627.7692 or www.nmdp.org Good Luck, hope this helps in some way!
- The blood does need to be taken while the cord is still pulsing, but the cord doesn't have to be cut to extract the cord blood. That's done with a needle in the umbilical cord, and doesn't have to interfere with delayed cord clamping or cutting.
