Umbilical Cord Blood Bank

Umbilical Cord Blood Banking?

I am strongly considering saving my baby's umbilical cord blood, but I want to hear from someone who has done it first. Has anyone here had a good or bad experience involving cord blood? Anyone know the most affordable way of doing it? Is it worth it? Anyone due soon and considering it?

  1. It all depends what your wanting to save. If its the the stem cells your after than accordingly this is costly however they can be used for some pediatric conditions. The cost has to be reviewed. See here: http://pediatrics.about.com/od/agesandstages/i/cord_blood_bank.htm Is it cheaper to have another child than it is to store the cells?
  2. I went with CBR, but have friends who went with Viacord. It's like Mc donalds or Burger King. Your choice, but do your research! It's def the way of the world now, and i'm glad i'm doing it. Pray you never need it, but be glad you did if ever you need to use it. Good Luck
  3. I'm 33 weeks and I DID consider it but after talking with my OB she told me that its definitely a good idea & worth the money if you have chronic diseases that run in the family that could pop up somewhere down the line... but if not, she said it would most likely be stored for the amount of time I payed for and thrown out. I heard that if its your first child, & you plan on having a second one, wait until you have the second one to bank the cord blood. Good luck
