Umbilical Cord Blood Bank

Is there any other way to register for donating your umbilical cord blood other than the 1-800 number?

I've gotten a ton of papers for umbilical cord donation and I've already signed papers with my hospital for it. I was just wondering if anyone else has registered through a website or something other than the 1-800 number you have to call in order to make sure you're eligible. Sorry for the confusion but I'm talking about cord blood donation, not banking.

  2. Wow, great website. I've been thinking about this, and as it turns out, I don't meet thier extremely stringent guidelines. I have a tattoo that I got over 15 years ago, so I don't qualify. I'm wondering how many people would qualify. There are alot of restrictions, some I never would have thought of.
  3. Yes! I know exactly what you're talking about. I 'm donating my cord blood as well, and everyone thought I was talking about banking - completely different! I already signed up with my hospital myself, but like you I did have other questions. The National Marrow Donor Program, which is probably with whom your hospital's local donor bank is registered with, is probably the best place to call. Here are their 2 numbers: General information (NMDP or The Marrow Foundation): 1 (800) MARROW2 (1-800-627-7692) The NMDP Office of Patient Advocacy: 1 (888) 999-6743 I ended up calling the local office of the blood bank. You can get that phone number off of their website, which I will put on the "know your source" area of the answer area. They called me back within an hour of calling them. They were extremely helpful. I don't know where you live, but if that doesn't work, I really think they will be able to put you in touch with an international place a well. They are in business of getting cord blood, so they will try their best to help you. Good luck!
